Behind the Build

As we prep for our very first Sage&Steel event, a lot is happening behind the scenes.

We’ve been working closely with venue partners, female-led brands, and potential collaborators to craft an experience that feels both elevated and intentional. Every detail from format to feeling is being designed to bring you value, connection, and something genuinely fresh.

This month, our cofounder’s were invited to attend a wealth workshop hosted by a fellow founder of Wahine Capital. Elya, our co founder attended and she went not just as a participant, but as a vetting partner. We are currently exploring how we can bring similar wealth-focused workshops to future Sage&Steel events, so that each one continues to offer depth, learning, and momentum for your personal and financial growth.

On the back end, we are also building the foundation, setting up our internal systems, workflows, and event ops to ensure this is just the beginning of something lasting.

Money Moves for The S&S Girlies: First Interest Rate Cut in 5 Years. What Does That Mean For You?

With Malaysia’s first rate cut in 5 years, we are entering a season that calls for bold, informed moves. Whether you’re saving, spending, or starting, we are here to guide you with clarity, community, and courage. Let’s break this down in a way that actually matters to you and what you can do.

First, What Are Interest Rates?

Think of interest rates as the price of borrowing money.

When you:

• Borrow money (e.g. a home loan), you pay interest — a little extra, on top of what you borrowed.

• Save or invest money (e.g. in a fixed deposit), you earn interest — the bank pays you a little extra for keeping your money with them.

The Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) is the benchmark interest rate set by Bank Negara Malaysia, and it influences all other lending and saving rates in the country.

What Is a Rate Cut?

When the central bank lowers the OPR, it’s called a rate cut and it's designed to boost the economy by making it cheaper for people and businesses to borrow money.

Why This Matters Now?

On July 9, 2025, Bank Negara cut the OPR from 3.00% to 2.75%, Malaysia’s first rate cut in 5 years. Here’s what that means for you:

What You Can Do Now:

• Review your finances – Is there a loan or credit card you could refinance at a lower rate?

• Explore funding options – Look into SME or women-focused grants and loans while rates are low.

• If you’re planning to buy a house or car – Now’s a smart time to negotiate for better loan terms. Lower interest rates mean lower monthly payments, which adds up over time.

• Rebalance your savings – Are there better places for your money to grow beyond traditional savings?

• Start investing (even small) – Opening an investment account or learning how to grow your money can help you stay ahead of inflation and financial goals.
